A file with the purpose of enhancing market surveillance and the safety of cosmetic products. A Product Information File is to be maintained by the responsible person for any cosmetic product placed on the market in the European Union. (source: EC Reg. 1223/2009). A PIF should contain a detailed description of the product, a cosmetic product safety report, manufacturing information, proof of the effect claimed for the cosmetic product, data on animal testing (If applicable), labeling, data on serious undesirable effects etc.
